The Hunter JO has been collaborating with our member coastal councils on a funding submission to the Increasing Resilience to Climate Change Grants (Round 3) program. The ‘Act now on Adaptation: Coastal Wise Communities’ project would deliver a proactive evidence-based coastal adaptation communication and engagement resource for the Hunter and Central Coast region, and provide a pathway to embed Climate Change Resilience into the Integrated Planning and Reporting (IP&R) Framework of Councils.
Coastal communities are impacted by various coastal hazards; erosion, inundation, storms and sea level rise; the severity and frequency of which are increasing due to climate change. Managing these impacts consumes significant council and agency resources and is generally done on a site-by-site or council-by-council basis. To assist Councils more consistently and collaboratively plan for and respond to these issues, the proposed project will provide:
- a suite of coastal adaptation communication resources
- an IP&R package to assist Council’s embed project objectives and outputs into their overarching planning documents,
Councils involved in the project include:
- MidCoast Council
- Port Stephens Council
- City of Newcastle
- Lake Macquarie City Council
- Central Coast Council
- Maitland Council
