Cement is one of the most widely used materials in the world, playing an integral role in the built environment and used extensively in council projects. However, the production of concrete entails a substantial carbon footprint, primarily attributed to cement production. However, advancements in low carbon cement and concrete offer promising avenues for reducing this footprint.

The Hunter Joint Organisation collaborated with NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) to facilitate discussion between councils within the Hunter region and local suppliers. More than eighty people from councils, concrete suppliers, and academia, attended this event to help build a picture of the challenges and opportunities for low carbon concrete in the Hunter.
