How we manage our river catchments today helps shape how well our communities withstand the challenges of tomorrow.

The Hunter JO recently attended the Hunter River Forum, hosted by Hunter Local Land Services which brought together local councils, Traditional Owners, landholders, scientists and community groups. The forum explored practical, nature-based solutions to improve river health and resilience, including riverbank recovery, riparian zone management, water quality improvements, and addressing erosion and climate impacts.

Participating in collaborative regional forums like this supports the Hunter JO’s Strategic Plan 2035 priorities around environmental sustainability and resilience. By strengthening partnerships and sharing knowledge on climate adaptation, flood resilience and waterway health, we’re helping our ten member councils identify place-based solutions that better protect communities, landscapes and infrastructure from future climate and natural hazard risks.

Great to see so much local knowledge, expertise, and collaboration in one room, all working towards a healthier, more resilient Hunter River catchment.
