Rangers come together for Regional Illegal Dumping seminar

  • September 24, 2024

Rangers from across the Hunter Central Coast region came together on Tuesday 17 September 2024 for the second RID Officers Network forum hosted by the Hunter Joint Organisation in Thornton.

Special guest was Phil McNeice, Senior Ranger, Illegal Dumping Investigations Unit from Shoalhaven City Council.  Phil provided ‘tips and tricks’ from his many decades of working in the field of illegal dumping of waste.

A key message from the day was the importance of building strong alliances with local police, charitable organisations, corrective services and the NSW Environment Protection Authority. Another tip was the need always to remain courteous and respectful with members of the public, when following up incidents and confirming evidence of illegal dumping.  Enhanced technology is helping many councils to catch illegal dumping offenders. RID officers work together with other public land managers to assist in the protection of wildlife and natural areas from the harm caused by the illegal dumping of waste.

Contact your local council for details of lawful places to take household waste and keep the Hunter Central Coast region free of illegal dumping.
