After extensive consultation, the Disaster Adaptation Plan (DAP) Guidelines have been published by the NSW Reconstruction Authority (RA). They set out a collaborative, regional-scale, and community-focused approach to disaster adaptation planning.
We know that disasters are not contained to local government boundaries. Regional-scale DAPs will improve the ability to address natural hazard risks in a coordinated way. They will allow for the identification and implementation of solutions at a local and regional- scale; will promote sharing of costs, data and research; and improve access to subject-matter specialists and funding options.
Hunter JO has received funding under the Disaster Ready Fund Round 2 to support delivery of a foundational DAP for the region through collaboration and codesign with councils and NSW RA. To find out more or to get involved, contact Anna Flack at annaf@hunterjo.nsw.gov.au.
