Circular Economy Webinar 2021

  • September 29, 2021

The Hunter JO has been collaborating with local councils, industry groups, State Government, and circular economy consultants on our Circular Economy program to deliver many projects and resources for the Hunter region. With many exciting initiatives in the works, the Circular Economy program is working towards its goal of creating Australia’s leading regional circular economy.

Circular Economy Webinar

Our Regional Policy and Program Manager, Tim Askew, discussed these projects and shared Circular Economy knowledge and advice alongside Edge Environment’s Head of Circular Economy and Lifestyle Thinking, Jenni Philippe, and Sustainability Advantage’s Senior Project Officer, Jonathan Wood in Planet Ark’s first Circular Councils webinar. This webinar was hosted by the Australian Circular Economy Hub on Friday 24th September.

This webinar series is focused on how local government organisations across Australia are embracing and leading the transition towards a circular economy. Local leadership and collaboration will play an instrumental role in driving this change due to their proximity to resource management, public infrastructure, planning, community services and water.

This session looked at the achievements of the Hunter JO and shared council approaches. In addition, there was a focus on:

  • The importance of collaborative approaches
  • Actions councils can take
  • How to access existing resources including policy, research and government support

Following this first webinar, Lake Macquarie City Council will be discussing their circular economy initiatives. This discussion will be led by their Circular Economy Lead, Debbie O’Byrne, and will take place on Friday the 1st of October.
