Building Preparedness to Natural Hazard Risk

  • June 23, 2026

We provided a Simtable demonstration at the recent Newcastle screening of Adaptation Stories, hosted by the NSW Reconstruction Authority. The screenings were a series of short films featuring leaders and communities building preparedness to natural hazard risk, and also included a panel discussion.

Our Simtable demonstration features a digital sand table displaying high-quality models of natural hazards such as bushfires and floods, over local maps of the Hunter, allowing communities to gain a better understanding of how fires and floods move through their local landscape, to help them prepare for natural disasters.

The event was designed to bring together communities working and interested in disaster adaptation. Resources and events like this support our communities to adapt and build resilience to the impacts of more frequent natural disasters, extreme weather, and climate change.

The Simtables program has been supported by both the Bushfire Community Recovery and Resilience Fund (BCRRF), and the Disaster Risk Reduction Fund (DRRF), which are jointly funded by the Australian Government and NSW Government.
