Asbestos Workshop

  • December 11, 2025

To coincide with Asbestos Awareness Week in November, we supported Local Government NSW and SafeWork NSW  deliver a workshop in Lake Macquarie for field staff involved in our Regional Illegal Dumping (RID) Program, for the purpose of reviewing asbestos regulation from a council perspective.

Key workshop highlights included:

  • Responding to illegal dumping incidents
  • Exempt, complying, and development with consent
  • Development without consent
  •  Illegal development
  • Unsafe maintenance and cleaning (eg: high pressure water on super six roofs)
  • Renovations and refurbishments
  • Paid removal work
  • Do it yourself (DIY) removal
  • Illegal storage and disposal of asbestos waste
  • Sampling – Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and council officer safety
  • Do’s and Don’ts. Tips and Tricks.

Major benefits from this workshop and our RID program include an emphasis upon collaboration, and the sharing of knowledge, resources, and experience in tackling illegal dumping.

Visit our webpage for more information on our Regional Illegal Dumping Program (RID) https://hunterjo.nsw.gov.au/projects/regional-illegal-dumping-program-rid/

The Hunter Central Coast RID Program is funded by the NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA).
