AdaptNSW Forum

  • December 11, 2025

Representatives from Hunter JO and our Member Councils attended the 2025 AdaptNSW Forum during November in Sydney. Built around the themes of “Other Ways of Knowing, Thinking, Feeling and Doing,” the Forum offered a unique space to explore how we can reimagine adaptation through science, traditional knowledge, culture and community.

Attending the Forum provided an invaluable opportunity to deepen our understanding, connect with cross-sector peers, and bring fresh perspectives to building climate-resilient communities across the Hunter region.

Highlights included:

  • Learning about the extensive hazard risk and climate projection data now available through the NSW Government’s Future Climate and Adaptation Hub and the NSW Coastal Erosion and Inundation Assessment 2025
  • Witnessing the fireside yarn about whispers of dust and wind which reflected the deep respect and intersection between science and indigenous knowledge as fostered by DCCEEW’s cultural pathways project
  • Panel discussions featuring experts, regional leaders and practitioners who shared practical insights towards building thriving regional economies for a changing climate
  • Listening to innovative work being done across the state to build community capacity and resilience
  • Networking with our peers from across the Hunter Region, other JOs and state government

We are proud to collaborate with partners across NSW and contribute to the conversation on climate adaptation, resilience and regional leadership. This event was hosted by NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water DCCEEW, and reinforced the importance of working together across regions, sectors and communities to strengthen the future of the Hunter.
