Charging Ahead: Driving the Future of Council Operations

  • April 14, 2026

This month, we held the Charging Ahead: Driving the Future of Council Operations event at Maitland Regional Athletics Centre. The day showcased the latest in operational vehicles including utes, vans, tippers, flat top trucks, waste/refuse, construction and more.

The EV Drive Day explored the next steps to electrifying council fleets and was dedicated to helping councils navigate the essential aspects of transitioning to electric heavy vehicle fleets. Designed specifically for local government, the event provided a platform for council representatives to collectively address, and collaborate on, shared challenges in the EV transition process.

A range of EVs were available to test drive, including BYD, Daimler, Farizon, FOTON Australia, Tembo and Volvo.

Expert speakers included:

  • DCCEEW Transport Electrification Team
  • ESG Team Global Express
  • Port Stephens Council
  • Volvo Group Australia
  • Help me buy an EV
  • Tembo Australia

The day was a success and highlighted how we work with our member councils to decarbonise operations and support the transition to net zero emissions, leading communities towards a clean energy future in the Hunter.
