With Christmas just around the corner, many households across the Hunter will soon be unwrapping new toys, tools and gadgets many of which contain loose or embedded batteries. This makes the past few months of the Never Bin a Battery campaign, led by the Hunter Joint Organisation with funding from the NSW EPA, especially timely. The campaign was designed to raise awareness in the Hunter community about the dangers of incorrect battery disposal and to encourage safe, responsible recycling. It has also celebrated the efforts of our community, who continue to do the right thing by using household Chemical Clean Out days, Community Recycling Centres and B-cycle collection points to recycle their batteries safely.
To further support residents, the campaign includes a new Battery Chat widget on the Hunter Circular website. This interactive tool allows people to ask questions about how to dispose of specific types of batteries, learn more about battery safety, and test your knowledge with a quick battery quiz. We encourage everyone to jump online and give it a try here https://www.huntercircular.com.au/
Over the coming weeks, keep an eye out for NSW EPA Never Bin a Battery signage and collateral appearing around your community, reinforcing this important safety message at this time of year. This Christmas, remember, never bin a battery. Recycle it safely.
The Never Bin a Battery Campaign is Proudly Funded by the NSW Government.
