On 23 May, over 30 business leaders, government representatives, researchers and innovators came together for the first in a series of workshops to shape the Hunter’s circular economy and net zero future.
Hosted by Hunter Joint Organisation, GHD, and Beyond Zero Emissions, the workshop brought together diverse voices from across sectors to explore how our region can collaborate to unlock economic opportunities through circular economy ‘precincts’ and industrial decarbonisation problem solving.
Keynote speaker Dr Chris Oughton, a global expert on industrial symbiosis, set the tone with insights from successful industrial transitions, while regional leaders outlined bold plans for collaborative governance models to solve our biggest decarbonisation and circular economy challenges. The workshop featured practical group sessions focused on turning ideas into action, highlighting the need for coordinated networks, trusted data, industry-led governance, and shared infrastructure.
This is just the beginning. The Hunter region is poised to lead the way—and we’re inviting others to join this movement.
