Regional Submission - WaSM Strategy Implementation Plan 2021

  • October 29, 2021

Our Waste and Resource Recovery (WARR) team recently held a workshop with our Member Councils to collaborate on a regional submission to the NSW Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) with our feedback on their draft Waste and Sustainable Materials Implementation Plan for the region.

This workshop focused on the implications of this plan, advocating for participation in the co-design process and flagging resource recovery and Circular Economy opportunities in the region. This plan will represent a shift to a contestable funding arrangement that has the potential to have an impact on existing council programs.

Member Councils through the Hunter JO are advocating for future contestable funding models to be streamlined in their administration burden, flexible in their spending allocation guidelines, allow for staged/multi-year projects and be equitable to access.
