Hunter JO was proud to host Joint Organisation Net Zero Acceleration (JONZA) program members last month in Newcastle. The two-day event attracted Joint Organisations from seven regions across NSW, along with the NSW Government Sustainable Councils team. Representing Canberra Region, Illawarra Shoalhaven, Riverina Eastern, Central NSW, Mid North Coast and Northern Rivers, representatives came together to share ideas and current net zero projects, provide an overview of circular economy opportunities, collaborate on strategic planning and provide an update on current initiatives.
The event also featured site visits in Newcastle and Lake Macquarie, highlighting sustainability initiatives including a tour of EV charging stations, sharing insights and recommendations, visiting Cameron Park Rural Fire Service operational site’s microgrid, including solar PV, battery storage, and backup diesel generation, sparking tech-savvy discussions.
Thank you to all that came along and to the Sustainable Councils team for supporting us to help drive net zero and sustainability outcomes. We love to show off our fabulous region and the incredible work that our councils are leading in sustainability, climate change and net zero initiatives.
