In preparation for the National General Assembly of Local Government (ALGA conference) to be held in Canberra in June, the Hunter JO Board has confirmed four shared regional motions to be lodged at the conference. This approach aims to:
- Amplify the shared advocacy priorities of the Hunter’s councils on the national stage.
- Emphasise to the Federal Government the strength of alignment across the councils regarding the Hunter’s shared challenges, opportunities and strategic directions.
Our 2025 motions focus on:
- Streamlining government support and investing directly in council led action to accelerate the repurposing and reactivation of mining lands
- Substantially increasing Government investment in local enabling transport and community infrastructure critical to delivering more housing
- Grant funding reform to improve strategic outcomes and the equity and efficiency with which funding is delivered to local councils
- Reforming the delivery of road funding to councils to ensure equity in funding to rural and regional councils.
