Joint Regional Planning and Economic Development Forums

  • April 20, 2021
  • Collaboration, economicdevelopment, forums, hunterjo, hunterregion, regionalplanning

The Hunter JO convened the inaugural joint session of its Regional Planning and Economic Development Forums on 30th March 2021; in line with our statutory function of intergovernmental collaboration. The forum not only provided updates around Regional Planning and Economic Development, but also the opportunity of input from Council Directors and Senior Managers to a suite of regional initiatives underway by the NSW State Government, including:

  • Hunter Regional Plan Review
  • Regional Transport Plan
  • Identity and Positioning Strategy
  • Greater Newcastle Urban Development Program
  • Greater Newcastle Catalyst Areas
  • Events Acceleration Fund, Regional Job Creation Fund and Regional Growth Fund 2.0

Other focus areas covered within the forum included the development of a Hunter Freight and Supply Chain Strategy, led by the Committee for the Hunter; exploring opportunities for regional economic data collation and analysis; and facilitating input by Councils on the wide range of projects the Hunter JO is currently delivering or about to commence.

Future joint sessions of the forums, convened by the Hunter JO, will be on a quarterly basis. For further information please email admin@hunterjo.nsw.gov.au.
