Hunter Global Summit: Next Steps & Outcomes

  • March 18, 2022

In February, the Hunter JO held our Hunter Global: Our International Future summit! After an exciting two days, filled with attendees from all sectors across the region, we are looking forward to taking the momentum and energy from the summit to co-design the way forward as the Hunter enters the global stage.

After two years of online meetings and emails, the room was energised and abuzz with the familiar noises of networking and catching up in person again. Bringing people together from all corners of the region, the summit was able to engage industry experts, decision makers and doers with an amazing variety of speakers and panellists.

On the first day we focused on the “above the wing” opportunities that the runway upgrade presents. This encompassed moving people in and out of the region and the priorities for establishing the Hunter as a world-class tourism offering and attracting global enterprise. Day two focussed on the “below the wing” opportunities and all things freight and export. This day was around the priorities for building the Hunter’s international connectivity and trade.

On both days of the summit, we held workshops that were facilitated by Astrolabe group. These workshops brought together the attendees to identify priorities and actions to co-design the way forward.

Following the summit, the Hunter JO is developing a set of advocacy outcomes and actions that need to be undertaken to achieve the priorities identified over the two days. The first piece of collateral developed from the summit is a ‘teaser’ video that will be used to introduce key decision makers and stakeholders to the initiative and showcase the region’s preparedness to go global.

Thank you to all of the speakers, panellists and participants involved over the two days, and to our project partners for their dedication to the Hunter Global: Our International Future initiative – Newcastle Airport, Business Hunter, Committee for the Hunter, and the University of Newcastle.
