Hunter JO Capacity Building for Contaminated Lands

  • October 13, 2020
  • Capacity building, Contaminated Lands, Environmental Health, Knowledge sharing

The Hunter JO will be hosting four capacity building workshops for council staff throughout October as part of its Contaminated Lands Program. These online, interactive workshops will focus on the responsibility of council officers under the Contaminated Land Management Act 1997.

The workshops will target land use planning and Environmental Health & Compliance staff. They will focus on two areas under the Act;

  • Conducting an initial review of the potential for contamination, and;
  • Initiating the investigation and remediation process.

The event will also mark the release of the two following regional model procedures;

  • Conducting an Initial Review by Council
  • Initiating the Investigation, Remediation and Site Audit Process

These procedures will provide an ongoing resource for knowledge-sharing and capacity building within Councils across the region.

The Hunter JO’s Regional Contaminated Land Capacity Building Program aims to build the technical expertise and capacity of Councils within the Hunter region to effectively identify, assess and manage contaminated land management issues. To read more about our Contaminated Lands Program click HERE.
