The Hunter JO was recently invited to provide evidence to the NSW Government inquiry into the re-use of mining lands at their hearings held in the Hunter. This followed our submission outlining the challenges and opportunities our region is facing with the anticipated closure of many mines and power stations in the coming years.
Our focus was:
- The significant opportunity these lands can provide as our region’s economy evolves.
- Clear planning and policy pathways to facilitate their re-use and give investors confidence.
- Strategic view of how we can maximise the value of these lands and assets (eg railway lines, water, road, electricity) to attract new business, local jobs and deliver biodiversity outcomes.
