The Hunter JO has recently become a member of the Australasian Land and Groundwater Association (ALGA). ALGA provides a forum and identity for the Australasian Contaminated Land and Groundwater Industry, and to support professionals working in the field. The core focus of the association is to support advances in the prevention, assessment and remediation of contaminated land and groundwater.
More specifically, Hunter JO will be representing the needs of its member Councils by being a member on the following two professional working groups:
- Newcastle Branch Committee – Includes representation from UoN, GHD, Ventia, Qualtest, Veolia, AECOM and Construction Sciences
- Local Government Special Interest Group Committee Member – Includes representation from Australia and New Zealand; incl. Local Gov, JO’s and State Gov agencies
Representation in these groups allows for the fostering of collaboration between local government and industry professionals by identifying common interests, needs and understanding. It also provides the unique opportunity to harness an existing commitment to professional development, in the form of webinars and activities, and ensure that this development extends to local government staff.
