Act Now - Coastal Communications Project

  • May 2, 2022

The Hunter Joint Organisation has been working with the Department of Planning and Environment (DPE) on the Act Now on Coastal Adaptation project. This project will deliver a proactive evidence-based coastal adaptation communication and engagement resource for the Hunter and Central Coast region and provide a pathway to embed Climate Change Resilience into the Integrated Planning and Reporting (IP&R) Framework of Councils.

The first part of the project was the development of the Climate Change IP&R Package, which was released in draft form in late 2021 and is currently being finalised. This package has been extremely well received not only in the Hunter region but across the state.

The remaining part of the project is the development of a coastal communication and engagement package, based on the Hunter Central Coast Act on Adaptation Coastal Wise Communities Survey Final Report by DPE. Hunter JO has engaged communication consultants, Articulous, to deliver this package.

We will be hosting sessions for Council engagement on the Coastal Communications Matrix in late April, and the draft Communications materials will be open for engagement from the 20-30 May. There will be another engagement session on these materials on the 24th of May 2022.

For more information on this project and engagement sessions, please contact Anna Flack, Regional Environmental Projects Coordinator on annaf@hunterjo.com.au or 0460 038 199
