Circular Economy Case Study 2021

  • July 27, 2021
  • Circular Economy, Hunter JO, Hunter Region, innovation, Planet Ark

Areas of regional Australia are fast becoming driving forces in areas of economic diversification through embracing the concept of a circular economy. The Hunter JO showcases these efforts through our Hunter and Central Coast Circular Economy program that is focused on utilising collaboration with our Member Councils and regional partners to create Australia’s leading regional circular economy.

“Driving a transition from the current linear model of economic production to a model of circular economic production is super complex. State and local government collaboration provides the optimal strategic approach to achieving a circular economy within our region,” said Joe James, CEO of the Hunter JO.

The critical role of the Hunter JO within the circular economy is:

1. Demonstrating leadership through behaving in a way that says we value circular outcomes
2. Being a ‘systemic enabler’ by prioritising action that makes it easier for the marketplace to use ‘circular’ thinking and implement ‘circular’ solutions

To understand more about Circular Economy within our region, check out Planet Ark Environmental Foundation’s recent case study where they sat down with the Hunter JO’s Regional Policy and Program Manager Tim Askew, Sustainability Advantage’s Senior Project Officer Jonathan Wood, and Lake Macquarie City Council’s Circular Economy Lead Debbie O’Byrne, MBA to discuss their work within the region.
