The Accelerating Event Economies project is coming to an end in June this year, and we have achieved a lot!
A stakeholder group with representatives from our ten Member Councils’ tourism and events teams, along with Destination Sydney Surrounds North, Committee for the Hunter and Department of Regional NSW have met monthly and attended five workshops throughout the project to inform the outcomes.
The robust conversations as a group, and extensive efforts of multiple consultants are all culminating in assets that will help position our region as a destination of choice for world class events that align with our unique offering.
So far, we have achieved:
- An economic analysis of the value of events in the Hunter region, which helped develop an Event Assessment and Prioritisation Framework
- A review of our ten Member Councils’ event licencing processes and provided recommendations to streamline them to make it easier for event managers when they come to our region
- Completed a facilities audit of the indoor and outdoor venues that can host events across the region, and created an Event Planning Guide with consistent templates the region can use
We will soon be releasing a website and promotional material designed for event managers that will provide information to make it easier for event managers to host their event in our region. We developed a creative approach for the website and promotional material that allows all ten destinations across the region to be represented equally – watch this space for more updates!
