Local Government Excellence in the Environment Awards

  • November 3, 2022

The Hunter JO, along with four of our Member Councils, are all finalists in the LGNSWs 2022 Excellence in the Environment Awards, across various categories. The awards ceremony will take place on Tuesday 6th December.

The Hunter JO has been nominated for the Innovation in Planning, Policies and Decision Making award for our Climate Change IP&R Package. This award category recognises innovation in the application of integrated environmental management and sustainability practices in planning, policies and decision making.

The Climate Change IP&R Package was submitted due to the success of all climate change resilience projects hinging on the ability to embed them as a priority into Council operations ensuring they are a key consideration through the IP&R framework.

Our Member Councils that are also finalists include:

  • MidCoast Council in the Invasive Species Management category for their Implementation of a rapid response biosecurity program to eradicate plume poppy
  • Muswellbrook Shire Council in the Natural Environment Protection & Enhancement: On Ground Works category for their Rehabilitation of Muscle Creek for community and environmental benefit
  • Lake Macquarie City Council in the Sustainable Infrastructure category for their Designing sustainable energy ecosystems for Council facilities
  • Singleton Council in the Local Sustainability category for their Singleton’s State of the Environment project

Congratulations to all of the councils that have received nominations! For the full list visit the LGNSW Environment Awards website.
