After years of collaboration with Newcastle Airport and other regional partners, it was great to see our efforts realised at the September official opening of the International Passenger Terminal.
This game-changing regional asset, supported by the new Code E runway, will serve over 1 million people, unlock more than 4,400 jobs, and drive $12 billion in economic growth. New direct flights now include:
- Perth – connecting our region to WA and offering a one-stop link to London, Paris, or Rome.
- Bali – opening access to tropical escapes and one-stop connections to Asia, including Tokyo.
Since 2018, we have proudly partnered with Newcastle Airport on this transformative project. The terminal marks a major milestone, unlocking global access and securing long-term benefits for our region.
We were honoured to be welcomed by the Worimi peoples at the opening, and to share the event with key Federal and State MPs whose support made this possible: Hon Pat Conroy, Meryl Swanson MP, Hon Yasmin Catley, and Hon Kate Washington.
Our Deputy Chair and Mayor of Port Stephens, Leah Anderson, brought great energy to the launch, and was joined by fellow Newcastle Airport Board Directors Cr Callum Pull, Jeremy Bath, Tim Crosdale, and Chair Jude Munro AO in celebrating this achievement.
It was also wonderful to celebrate with our advocacy partners who helped make this happen: Business Hunter, Committee for the Hunter, Destination NSW, Destination Sydney Surrounds North, Newcastle Tourism Industry Group, Destination Port Stephens, University of Newcastle, NSW Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, Department of Defence, and many more.
