The 31st National General Assembly (NGA) of Local Government

  • August 28, 2025

Our member councils proudly represented our region at the National General Assembly (NGA) in Canberra in June, helping shape national discussions on local government priorities.

Our councils successfully moved two shared regional motions in the key areas of Jobs and Skills and Housing and Homelessness. These motions call on the Australian Government to:

  • Support regional job transitions by directly assisting local governments to respond to substantial job losses from major industry closures in economies shifting to net zero.
  • Invest in enabling infrastructure for housing by substantially increasing direct funding to councils for local transport, community infrastructure, and utilities. This support is essential to unlocking development-ready land and accelerating housing delivery in line with national housing targets.

Hunter Delegates Dinner

In addition to formal conference proceedings, we were delighted to host over 40 representatives from across the Hunter and Central Coast including Mayors, Councillors, and staff at the annual Hunter Delegates Dinner in Canberra. This important networking event provides a valuable opportunity for delegates to build connections, share insights, and collaborate across council boundaries.
