During June our Mayor’s met with Minister Rose Jackson, Minister for Housing and Minister for Water to discuss the Regions shared priorities in the lead up to the 2027 NSW Election.
The meeting provided an important opportunity for Hunter Mayors to collectively raise issues that are impacting communities across the region and to continue strengthening collaboration with other levels of Government to progress and deliver better outcomes for the Hunter.
Key priorities discussed included:
Housing
- Commit to funding for enabling infrastructure for local government valued at $100m per year indexed to support Local and State housing targets
- Repurpose temporary housing used for the Hunter Transmission Project (and for future REZ projects) to contribute to long term housing across the region
- Funding Masterplans (range $500k per Masterplan) and enabling infrastructure to catalyse development of Transport Orientated Developments (TODs)
Water
We thank Minister Jackson for meeting with us to address housing and water infrastructure challenges across the region. We will continue to advocate for investment and policy settings that respond to the region’s growth pressures, unlock housing supply, and ensure Hunter communities have the infrastructure needed for a prosperous future.
